Slow performance during Sales order entry - serial number entry

Dear ALL,

We do have a customer who is using GP2013R2 with inventory with Serial Tracking options.

There are experiencing system lag on the sales serial number entry window. When a serial number is entered or scanned in for items with high quantity available (i.e. with high volume of serial number; e.g. around 4k of available serial number) , the system will take around 7 seconds to move the scanned in serial number into the selected scroll box.

The above happens for each serial number entered; so if 1 order has 10 items and 1 items averagely had 10 quantity, the system will pause 7seconds * 10 serial * 10 items which is around 12 minutes waiting time for 1 order.

Items with lower available quantity would be much faster.

Is there a way we can do to improve this performance? like adding indexes to table etc?

All feedback or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I think there is no option available for speed up serial number entry process only. Because, if your whole system is slow then we will give some suggestion to rectify the same. But, here your system is working fine with good performance. Only you wanted do speed up serial number entry process. I think this is not possible. As a developer I can confirm some scrolling window in GP will take some time (performance issue) for fill up more number of lines.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi,

I recommend capturing a SQL profiler trace during transaction entry and see if you can identify any inefficient queries.  It's possible that you may get a performance gain by creating some SQL indexes.  Your SQL DBA should be able to help in this endeavor.

    Thank you,

    Justin

You could try to recompile and reindex the inventory and serial number tables.  Make sure all users are out of the system and then run those two procedures.  We have found an increase in performance on processes that query data tables with a large number of rows returned.

Hi Araron, thanks for you suggestion. The procedures you mentioned, are you referring to SQL Maintenance, recompile? What about Reindex, which one is it referring to? is it Update statistic?

I tried both the Recompile and Update Statistic but it does not seems to have any improvements. Clicking a serial number to insert into the Selected Serial number takes estimated 30seconds for an item with 11,750 serial number available (in IV00200)

Do you think any customization on this window would help on improving the performance?

Yoke, I don't know why it's getting slow as you explain, and if there is something wrong then it should be expose in profiler, I believe.

What I want to let you know here at this point is that, we have done a customization for our clients who have large number of serial and lot number to different lot serial windows, and we did a customization for them to import serial numbers from their excel sheets and it happens in seconds.

    Hi,

On my test environment, GP 2010, I received 10,000 serial numbers in from a Purchase Order.  When entering a SOP invoice, and trying to Insert serial numbers in the "Sales Serial Number Entry" window (from the available list on the left to the "selected" list on the right), it's almost instantaneous.

Are you using any 3rd party (addon) products?  (As you mention that you are "scanning" in serial number, I think you may be).  What happens if you disable the addon product(s).  Is performance any better?

    Thank you,
    Justin

    Hi Yoke

Did you ever find a solution for this. We're experiencing the same issue and have run through the database suggestions but nothing yet.
