Document Management: FileType File with Original Location broken reference

Hi Guys,

Is there a way to move files from the original location to the archive location without breaking the document reference. I understand for the original location settings the files can be stored anywhere, could be on their local client or the network, but if we locate these files and move to the archive location and change the settings in the Document Type, I'm guessing the reference should still work? We may have to update the Path in the DocuValue table and change the related references to DocuRef I believe?

The problem we're having right now is, when the files are pointing to users local client stored in the network drive of the user and if the network mapping changes from \\Client\X$\TNE\2017\EXPENSE RECEIPTS\ to \\Client\D$\TNE\2017\EXPENSE RECEIPTS\, the reference will be broken and documents attached to the transaction will be no longer available.

We do have other archived locations setup across other departments, but we still have generic file type which is stored on the original location.

How about creating a symlink in the user folder pointing to the generic location each time it moves? That way no changes are required at all to the AX DB.
