D365 Excel Add In

Hello all,

I have a question about Excel Add In in D365.

We have the problem with the customer that the function "Open in Excel" has a different behavior for each user:

1. For some users the function is not displayed at all, although a template for it was uploaded in the document template.

2. For other users, the function is only displayed if you open the form via the path. If you open the form via the search, the function "Open in Excel" is not displayed.

3. with other users it functions as desired.

Does anyone have any experience and an idea what could be the reason for this?

Many thanks in advance and many greetings

Larissa

    Hi partner,

If you could add a screenshot for each situation, it will be more helpful to understand it.

Function "Open in Excel" means "Open in Excel online" or "Download Template"?

    1. First, for users who can't use export to Excel at all, check their security roles for ‘Export to Excel’ permissions, and check if they have permissions for Personal document templates and Document templates.

Please refer to this document for security roles: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/security-roles-privileges

    2. The scope of exporting to Excel and Word is completely different.

    • Exporting to Excel (including Excel templates) can only be used within a view, not within a form.
    • Exporting to Word (including Word templates) can only be used within a form, not within a view.

So the form opened via the search does not really use export to Excel.

In advanced find you can use export to Excel.

    Hello Hao,

I´m talking about the function "Open in Excel" in D365 FO:

    7115.pastedimage1571390307679v1.png

I don´t think that we have a problem with the security role here, because the most of us have the administrator role and receiving different results.

Could you explain your second point again?

I´m just talking about Excel, "Open in Excel" where I have to possibility, to make any adjustments on the excel and upload it again to D365FO.

With the function "Export to excel" I just have all the data from D365 in Excel but can´t import them again.

    Thank you for your help

    Kind regards

    Larissa

    Hi partner,

Since I mistakenly thought that you are referring to the export to Excel function in CRM, please ignore my last answer.

Other F&O experts will help you with this issue.

    Hi Lu,

The question is D365F&O related :), you have provided an answer for CE.

    ===============================

    Hi Larissa,

Could you provide more detail on your problem?

Are there specific forms where your issues are occurring?

Is there customization for these forms present in your environment?

Have you tried resetting the user's usage data for those whom are having issues yet?

Is the export to Excel button displayed?

What version of D365 are you experiencing this on?

In theory this should not happen, as the open in office button is related to menu access of the user. So if the user has access to the underlying table (read access actually should be sufficient) to which an Excel template is bound (via a data entity) then the open in Excel  should be displayed.

    Best regards,

    Ties

    Hello Larissa,

Do different users with same admin role have different results for same form? Or different forms?

    Hello Mattguo,

    for the same form.

I created a new template for all vendors for example and uploaded it in D365.

I have the option, when I go under All vendors to "open in Excel".

My colleague with the same role does not.

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards

    Larissa

We have the same, or a similar problem.

Logged in as a system administrator. On my laptop I cannot see the "Open in Excel" button - have tried both Vendor Invoice Journal page and General Ledger Journals page. When I remote desktop onto a development server (with a different version of Excel?) then I can see the "Open in Excel" button.

I have a colleague in the UK, he can see the button, and I have a colleague in the US, she cannot see the button.

    ??

    Kind regards

    Angela

screenshot - works on remote desktop to server, does not work on laptop

    Hello Larissa,

Believe this is Office 2016 or 2019 Standard, Professional Plus or Professional Edition for all the users. Would suggest check that first.

    Two possibilities:

    1.  Check the Office365 authentication credentials used in Excel.

    2.  Enable the add-ins through the Add-ins section (COM add-ins), if the O365 authentication credentials are fine.

    3.  Another way to test will be to view the Excel Data Connector when you export the data from Dynamics to excel?

    Thanks,

Open in Excel may have cached some security information

First sign out in Excel, sign back in and then reload the Office add-in
