Phone Number Import Problem

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm trying to import phone numbers with my address imports.  Most of my phone numbers are XXX-XXX-XXXX.  I also have some international phone numbers and some people put a 1- for long distance in the field of my non-GP system.  When I import the number, it is importing the -, but GP Integration Manager will add its own - as well.  So if I have 281-555-1234, GP IM  will import it as (281)-55-5-12 Ext0034.  Is there a way I can get GP IM to accept the phone number as is without reformatting it?

Thanks

Use a SQL script to first strip the 1- from the numbers.

Then us another script to remove all -

GP will always add the dashes in US format for the version you have.  Talk to Leslie before you try to import phone numbers in both formats to see what she wants you to do!

Do you have different format for different customer ? if yes You can modify Phone Number format in any GP window say (Tools-->Setup-->company-->Company) Goto-->Tools-->Customize-->Modify Current Window--> Click On Phone No1 Text Box -->Right Side you will see Phoene properties. Double Click on Data Type-->Click On Format Button--> Open Phone_Number --> select and Remove formated string. Do this for Phone 2 and 3.

Once you changed Phone format in one screen it will apply those format to all screen, and while importing you can assigned Phone format e.g. + 1 210.999.999 , +(91) 99999 something like that in your csv file.

you should assigned all users modify forms rights on user security.

    Thanks

    Re: Phone Number Import Problem

You could add a VBScript to your integration to strip out the "1-" from the phone number field for the international phone #'s. I think a field level script would work best for applying this conditional formatting. So in Destination Mapping you would set the rule for the phone number field to Use Script and then start coding. There are examples of VBScripts in Integration Manager which you can use as a starting point.

     Hope this helps.
