How to check and set default Visual studio version for development if multiple visual studio installed

Hello Guys,

I am facing one issue since very long time. I have one cloud dev environment for finance and operations (version - 10.0.30).

By default I am using Visual studio 2019 for development also the F&O extension is also installed in VS2019 version.

But for Retail SDK development, I have installed VS 2017 version.

Now whenever I am deploying the package or service update, its getting failed because it's always checking the F&O extension in VS 2017 instead of VS 2019.

Ultimately, I am always left to uninstall VS 2017 version to deploy the package successfully.

Please suggest how and where do I need the change the setting so that it'll always pick VS 2019 and deploy the package successfully.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Anant,

You can consider removing VS 2019 and use VS 2017 only. If this would be not your preference, I would suggest contacting Microsoft Support as you can't change the behavior of installing the deployable packages.

    Hi André,

Thanks for your prompt suggestions, I'll check with Microsoft support as well.

But I believe there must be some way where we can define either in the registry or somewhere in the setup to pick default visual studio. Unfortunately, I can't uninstall any of visual studio right now, as one VS2019 for D365 development and VS2017 is for retail development. Currently, developers are working on that.

    Hi Anant,

Do you have some update from Microsoft Support already? In the past with VS 2015 and VS2017, it just picked the latest due to the check. I can imagine that the check used at that time can now return any of the versions from VS 2017 or above.
