Back up for Development Environments and Solutions

I'm aware that Microsoft will back up development environments for 30 days (and production environments for longer).

Are there any alternative sources we can use to back up our development environments and Solutions?

Thanks
Louise

    Hey Louise

Actually, retention policy for Dynamics backups is 7 days for Development environments, as well as Production environments that DON'T have Dynamics 365 Apps deployed. Only Environments tagged as Production and with Dynamics 365 apps get a 28 days backup (not 30).

You can backup your solutions on your local computer:  simply add your customizations to solutions, then export the solutions regularly to your computer.  To backup your data, you can use Excel, a custom built app that export records using the API or third party software.  However, there's no such thing as a "Database backup" to download, or to move to another service, specially since there are different storage capacities (File, Logs & DB).

This is all documented on https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/backup-restore-environments.

    regards,

This will come under long term backup(more than 30 days). So will have to pay for it.

Thanks, is this something that can be done automatically and is there a cost to saving things on the database?

    Hi,

As we know, solutions is the key component on development instance.

We can keep the customizations into one solutions and regular basis keep the backup of solutions.

Also, please check below link solution packager.
