I am new to AX platform. And would like to extract a particular GL with e.g 10001 with transactions from 01/01/2018-31/01/2018.
Please advise how I may do that, thanks

Hi,
You can filter for the account and the period in the ledger transactions form that is available in the inquiry section in GL.
This should list you all transactions posted.
If you want then you can export all of those transactions to Excel by selecting CTRL+T

Below are the several possibilities:
General ledger > Inquiries > Voucher transactions (with filter by Main account like and Date like 01/01/2018..31/01/2018 (or 01/01/2018..01/31/2018 depends on your date time format))
General ledger > Main accounts > Filter by account > Click Posted button > Filter by Date using the same filter as above)
General ledger > Trial balance > Click Parameters button > Select Form and To date > Click Update button > Click on the Closing balance amount link.
Then, as Ludwig suggested, you can use Export to Excel feature to extract data into Excel
