Multiple Forms For Same Entity

Posted on by 245

This probably is a silly question!!! I am working on creating new entity in CRM and problem is we have too many fields on this entity. When I look at the form, it has too much information on 1 page. Is there a way we can have multiple forms for same entity so we can display form fields on different pages and navigate to those pages in some way like any other website? Or should I create separate entity for each of the page I want to create and then link them to the main entity?  Or is there a better way to do it?

Thanks.

If you dont have relationship between customer and loan info then you can use single entity with multiple forms for update .Using multiple forms you will be able to choose from the form navigation and with that you can also implement role based form as per user security role.

If you dont want to create another form then you can use different  TAB with Section to seperate loan information. Using TAB you can collapse the information on the page load to improve performance and when you want to see the data  just expand the tab.

    Hi SamCRM1.

You will need to store the loan information on the customer record if you do not want to create or use entity relationships. However, if you are willing to make use of entity relationships then you have the option of creating a Lookup field that points to a loan entity record.

You can simulate a 1:1 relationship..it's not very straight forward but is doable

Thanks Adrian for your reply. The video shows how to create and modify the form. What I am looking for is lets say if I have a page with customer information and I want to have another page with loan information for that customer. How will customer navigate from main page to loan page? I do not want to have a subgrid as there will be only one loan record. Not sure if I should create multiple entities or put everything like customer information and all the other information like loan etc in same entity?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much Oliver for your reply. By normalizing data you mean creating different entities when data is not related? Just like how we do in SQL Server Database where we create different tables? No, I didn't do that but I agree it should be normalized. But how can I connect the two entities then? For Example, We have a main page with customer information like name, address and contact information then I also want to have another page which will have loan information about that customer and then another page for some other information. I do not want to create N:1 or 1:N as it needs to be 1:1 relationship. How will the user navigate from one page to another. Like if its a website application, we can put a button on the page or something in the menu for the user to navigate?

Sorry, its probably too simple but I am having hard time figuring it out in CRM. :(

RE: Multiple Forms For Same Entity

you can have multiple forms per entity in CRM, once you add multiple forms you will see on the top of the record name your Form name with an arrow.. so you can navigate between forms

it is also possible to navigate between forms through javascript, so you could have some logic to change the form on the onsave / onload

now to be honest.. are you sure this is the best approach? have you normalized your data? should you have all in one single entity?

shouldn't you simply split the information into tabs, as they are collapsible, the user will be able to hide/show the information

if you have different information for example for different users, you can assign different security roles for the users, and create different forms, and finally assigning the forms per each role.. there is a lot of options here
