R2 Retail - Online Store Attributes

"Map attributes" for the online store - there is an option to "allow multiple values", which sounds like I should be able to select multiple values for the product attribute on the attributes form for the catalog (e.g. a METAL attribute on a piece of jewellery could have values COPPER LEAD and SILVER). However the Product attribute values form still only allows single value entry. Can anyone suggest how I enter multiple values?

Thanks but it doesn't answer the original question.

"Allow multiple values" is a metadata flag for the field which is used only in SharePoint ecommerce Online Store scenarios. AX Schema (defined in that UI) is replicated to SharePoint Search which provides an ability to decorate a Managed Property (this is a property which participates while querying SharePoint Search Index) with such attributes like "Queryable", "Refinable", ... "Allow multiple values". Today (in R2 and R3 releases) the last attribute is used only for the property SecondaryCategories to basically enable relation between any single product and its multiple categories it could belong to, what that means is that ManagedProperty RetSecondaryCategories can store multiple categories per single Listing and that multiplicity is supported (means an appropriate queries can be issued) by SharePoint Search index.

So, setting or not setting that checkbox in AX UI will not change any behavior in AX.

Please describe (the more complete the picture is the better) what you need to achieve, probably there is some option for that.

Sergey - great answer and explanation. Unfortunately (for me) you have confirmed my suspicions that I cannot achieve what I want to achieve. I need a many to many relationship between the listing (product/catalog) and the attribute, so that each listing can have multiple attribute values.

To clarify my example.......product X001 in SummerCatalog has a refinable attribute of METAL. The product is composed of COPPER GOLD and LEAD. In the online store I want to be able to refine by METAL, and if any one of the values COPPER GOLD or LEAD is selected for refinement, I want product X001 to appear. ie an attribute can take multiple values.

The [RETAILLISTINGATTRIBUTE] table looks like it only allows one [TEXTVALUE] for each combination of ATTRIBUTE and LISTING, rather than multiple values which is what I want.

Hope that clarifies what I need to achieve. Do you have any solutions other than METAL1 METAL2 METAL3, and doing some development between the CRT and the SharePoint online store to combine them into one list?

I think literally "multiple values" are not supported but you could probably acheive your goal by creating (in AX) a new dimension METAL and provide (for each variant of your master product) values (like COPPER GOLD, LEAD, ...) needed for that attribute. So the idea is to have master-variants in a way similar to Contoso Electronics Catalog - it has dimension COLOR where each variant provides a possible color, then, you could have a refiner on METAL (again, in similar way to Contoso Electronics Catalog when it is exposed to Online Store).

Sergey - even using a METAL dimension doesn't allow me to assign values of COPPER LEAD and SILVER to every variant. So I will now give up on this, and take the fugly option of maintaining METAL1 METAL2 METAL3 attributes in AX, and combining them into a METAL refiner in the webstore.

However...........master-variants............tell me about these please. What they do, how they are maintained. I am in the process of defining a "default variant" for the purpose of maintaining attributes against only one variant (size) for each colour, where a product has multiple colours (dimension). If that functionality already exists, I would love to hear about it.

As for information about variants - please have a look here: About product variants [AX 2012] It has description on what is happening on AX side. From SharePoint Online Store ecommerce side each variant is published as a separate Listing. For all variants which belong to the same master the column Group Number will be identical but the column Item Number will be unique. The Product Gallery page (the one which displays all available products for the given category) uses Group Number to collapse all variants (of the same master) into one product, so, if let's say you have a master product ContosoTV and it has 3 variants (red, green, blue) for the dimension COLOR in SharePoint we will have 3 listings (one per each variant, the record for the master itself is not published into SharePoint) which will be grouped into just one on a product gallery page, but if you click on that product you will see a Product Details page which will display a combobox to allow you select specific variant you want.
