BU Creation

Hi,

I Have a clarification, i would like to know if BU is basically based on organisation structure say for instance a organisation has its offices in four to five countries and each country Sales team( a Regional Sales Director and then Business dev Manager from various states in that country and then Inside sales executive) and Presales head for each country.

A Industry expert team for various industries like Pharma, Manufacturing , retail would be getting leads that are converted to oppuriutnities from various country.

Person A a expert in Pharma

Person B a expert in Manufacturing

Person C a expert in Retail

so on...

Now do i need to create BU based on the products offerings like for ex : Social Apps, MBS, MCS, etc or do i need to create BU based on the organisation structure  and keep the industry expert team in team, so whenever a lead is created and converted to opputunity i can trigger a wf for an email alert from sales guys of respective country to respective industry (lead) expert team having the presales team in cc.

Using BU is a little more complicated.

There is 3 main reasons for using BU's.

    1. To apply security model layers to prevent users from 1 BU to read/write/append etc on another BU's records.
    2. To apply a level of hierachy in users to create Business Intelligence more logically.
    3. To utilize team functionality more intelligent.

Once that is said... it really comes down to your requirements.

    • Are you allowing the users to read, write, append etc on records across business areas (Social apps, MBS etc.)?
    • Are you going to create matrix organisations, so that sales personnel can see all opportunities across business areas, while product managers can see all opportunities across countries?
    • Do the users need to be presented with "different" form layouts?
    • Are you going to create any chars, SRS reports, lists etc based on business areas?
    • If users are "localized" using BU's.. be aware that you will run into duplicated in the CRM system as company A will be owned by BU A.. but when BU B needs to work with BU A.. they cant find it and thereby will be forced to create a duplicate Company A..

My company is implementing a solution for an international organisation with more or less the same requirements. It is a thin line you need to walk.. you dont want duplicates, but then again you might want to limit users in what they are able to work with.

This is why CRM partners gets paid alot of money.. to advice you with the best possible solution.
