ReportReport
Posted on by

I m using ax 2012 to generate a report which require me to change the unit to piece for example itemid 000787 which is under unit m3 and I need to print out both m3 and piece out. I wanna try to do it in a while select loop which I already set for my report data in my data provider class.  so idea how can I input to change the m3 symbol to pcs?

is that something like I key in on the converter and it will convert for me? or it will auto generate the data to the table once the value had been insert?

You should setup conversion first and then you can use it.

so it is a class that I can use it on my other class so that it will auto generate my product from M3 value to Pcs Value? is that what you mean ?

its not clear what to advise.

Are there individual pieces of a fixed area/volume or are you looking to see how many whole pieces can be made from a bigger piece? In which case shape /size is relevant. e.g. i.e. may have a total of 100 m in stock. but it could be one huge piece or 200 smaller pieces of 0.5m each, and each piece could also be  different shape or offcut, or any other combination of sizes from which it may not be possible to determine how many it can be converted to of  pieces of the required size/shape.

Is this only for one item code? - the size of a piece may vary by item - from m to mm is a constant irrespective of item, but when you change physical dimension as in this example you have to specify unit conversion by item,

No, i mean if you want to convert one unit to another you should setup conversion rule in UnitOfMeasureConversion form.

so basically there is tons of item code with different conversion such as itemid 007 with factor 0.5912 or itemid 008 with factors 0.067. So basically what I wan was to find the correct item with the conversion and it will automatically convert when the data was key in to the table.

oh sorry maybe I m not clear with my question. I wanted it to have find the conversion itself so that it will automatically convert to the value. I.e the user key in invoice with item id and the qty(M3) of it so on the invoice report and the table itself will also recorded another value as piece. so the invoice will  be have both of it to be printed.

Yes, that is the way the system is designed.

You just have to make sure it physically makes sense.

Generally you should store in the smallest unit you issue. If you batch /serial control then a unit like piece or case makes more sense than kg or m.

    AX offers three different conversions:

Standard Conversions – Define the conversion between two units, applicable against all products. Such conversion can be defined only within the units belong to same Unit class. e.g. hour to minutes, kg to gm or sqfeet to sqinches, even ton to kg or m to in - they are the same physical dimension of length and the conversion value does not change

Intra and Inter offer product specific Unit conversions, and that’s what it makes those more special.

Intra-Class Conversions – Here we can define product specific conversion. Once conversion defined here between two units, it is applicable only to that product. Like standard conversion, units should belong to same Unit class for conversion. E.g. Case to boxes and boxes to EA (the number of boxes will be item specific

Inter-Class Conversions – Conversion can be defined between two units belong to different Unit class. Once conversion defined here between two units, it is applicable only to that product. e.g. Litre to kg here we are crossing physical (class) dimensions and there re product specific differences e.g. density

To define unit conversion, navigate to Organization administration –> Setup –> Units

Use the Unit creation wizard to create standard units quickly.

    Choose appropriate decimal precision.

AX only requires that a conversion exist in one direction. In other words, the user can define the conversion from SqFt to ea OR ea to SqFt. Ax odes not enforce this. The problem with setting up the conversion in both directions is more than just the redundancy of the input—the user opens up the risk that the conversions won’t be consistent. If the conversions are inconsistent, it will affect that way AX rounds in that AX will first look for the directly applicable conversion, before then going to the inverse conversion

Lachlan has some videos that may help https://organicax.com/2016/04/29/basic-inventory-unit-setup-for-an-item/

When you have no UoM conversions yet defined then OK to add, but if you have transactions, and  then alter the conversion logic then you risk problems.
