Dear Community members,

hope you all have a wonderful day.

i have a question regarding the update from 8.2 into the latest version, i allready started to install the update starting from 8.2.5.0004 to the next one which is 8.2.5.0004 then i thought why not skip the minor updates and jupm into the latest version of 8 which is 8.2.28.11 and it works with no issue. so my question is is it possiple to update into the latest version in one step, i mean going from 8.2.28.11 to 9.1.20.11 or is it going to cuse any issue.

this is my first time dealing witn on premise version of D365 so pease advise me on this matter.

thanks in advance, and have a good day.

You can not apply the cumulative update e.g. the Microsoft Dynamics 365 (on premises) Update 0.3 your trying with directly on 8.2, you must first download the major release bits for 9.0 that can be found on the url below.

After this you can apply the Service updates accordingly from Microsoft Dynamics 365 On-Premises Cumulative Updates - Microsoft Support

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

    Dear, thanks for you reply.
while trying to apply the next version of CRM which is the initial version of 9.0.3.7 it shows this error message, idk what is wrong but it is the same method that I followed during the previous updates. and I'm sure that I'm downloading the correct file which is server upgrade. so could you please advice me on that.

While your experience of skipping some minor updates and moving to the latest version within the 8 series appears to have gone smoothly, transitioning to a newer major version like 9.1.20.11 involves more complex changes.
Major version updates often bring significant enhancements, changes to underlying architecture, and improvements that might not be directly compatible with your current configuration.
Before attempting such a leap, I would strongly recommend reviewing the official documentation provided by Microsoft for upgrading Dynamics 365 from version 8.2 to version 9.1.

This documentation usually includes a recommended upgrade path, any prerequisites, and potential challenges you might encounter during the process. Additionally, consider setting up a testing environment where you can replicate your existing setup and perform a trial upgrade. This will allow you to identify any issues or conflicts that could arise before implementing the update in your production environment.

I myself have not updated on-prem from v8.2 to v9.1, I can't tell how painful it might be :D.
