Opening entries for inventory with bins enabled?

I am just importing our inventory however all of the stock lives in existing locations/bins in our current warehouse management system.

I had planned to do the opening entries with the Item Journal, however you cannot select the bin the stock lives in and when you pick the warehouse location you get the error..."You cannot use the location 01 because it is set up with Direct Put-away and pick. Adjustments to this location must therefore be made in a Warehouse Item Journal"

I then go to "Warehouse Item Journal" however all of the stock needs to be put into an adjustment zone/bin (then i guess manually move it to the bin location?).

What is the best practice for opening inventory when you have the warehouse set up like this?

From what I remember what i ended up doing was the process I had for doing adjustments.

Do a huge "Warehouse Item Journal" to essentially register the items into the physical warehouse.

Then do an "Item Journal" and "Calculate Warehouse Adjustments" and that then registers the items that show in the bins as being in actual stock.

    Hello Daniele,

Thank you but the link does not solve my purpose.

Let me elaborate, I hope this will help you where i'm stuck -

I'm uploading the inventory with Lot Numbers via Config Package. Warehouse Item Journal.

I'm able to see & fill everything related to Location, BINS etc. what i'm not seeing is Lot Numbers.

Now if i want to upload the inventory along with Lot numbers. What method i should opt ? Am i wrong in choosing Warehouse item journal ?

    Regards

    Karan

If the Bin Content and Inventory do not match, it means your warehouse and inventory module has issue. Chance is you are missing some steps on your business process.

Go to Item Journal and run the Calculate Warehouse Adjustment.

It will give you suggestion on how to adjust your inventory module.

Sorted it - So the changes needed posting on the item journal

    - So go to "Item Journal" and "Calculate Warehouse Adjustments" (you need to add in the reference from before) and then post the data there and the inventory will appear on the Item.

I think i am nearly there however the stock is not showing in the warehouse but it is showing in the bin?

    So i have...

    - Created a "Warehouse Item Journal" as that allows the Zone/Bin, and "Register" the stock into the correct Zone/Bin.

    - I go into the "Bin Contents" and the stock is there which is great

    - However when i look at the item on it's own it says there is 0?

How do i have stock in a bin at a location that does not show up as stock against the Item?

You should be able to specify the bin code in warehouse item journal.
