Default Bin Selection? Unable to remove?

We have disabled "Directed put-away and pick" as it is a nightmare to manage the warehouse with, and simplifies things a lot better for the warehouse.

As our warehouse was using Bin Ranking before for picking we switched to alphanumeric ordering in our warehouse so this could be achieved.

However it wants to set a fixed bin to items? We do not need this!

Here is an example of a pick for an item it would select the product in P2.E not he one in P2.A (A being on the ground level and then we have racking B,C,D & E at the very top) so you want to pick from P2.A06

So going into the bin it has set the top level bin as the "default" and "fixed"

You uncheck these and it gives the error...
Validation Results

Zone Code must be equal to '' in Bin Content: Location Code=WH01, Bin Code=BINCODE, Item No.=PRODUCTCODE, Variant Code=, Unit of Measure Code=EACH. Current value is 'PICK'.

So i have looked at changing this in various ways under the Zone > Bin and then under bin contents and so on and just won't let you disable it? I keep getting the same error?

Looking on the location it seems to be set on here, so I want to leave the "Default Bin Selection" blank and just pick as the system would alphanumerically. The only other 2 options are, "fixed" or "use last bin" neither of those would be any use?

I just need to set it so it would pick based on the alphanumeric ranking of the bin with nothing else?

Any idea as this makes absolutely zero sense to me?

I have the same question (0)

Looking through some more resources here and that seems the most logical way to set up a warehouse? So not sure why it needs to assign this default and and fixed bin?

    Hello,

If you don't get further responses to this issue, you may want to raise a support request to Microsoft support via your CSP / Partner.

I have tried to do this but I need to be paying for "Premier Access" to submit a problem? Or I pay for support via a CSP/Partner to fix the problem?

Either way this is not usual behavior and a fault with Business Central. I do not want to be paying to raise or fix faults with software i am already paying for?

    Hi,

Hopefully someone can help, i am unable to submit a support request as i do not pay for "Premier Access" via Microsoft or i do not pay for support via my partner.

I don't get how i pay a monthly subscription for licenses for Microsoft and i have no way of reporting this fault without paying for the privilege to do so?

We have been using the system for years and there are a catalog of updates every month fixing bugs like this, however i am not one of the ones paying for the privilege to report these bugs?

    Can somebody help me out?

Biggest piece of advice is stop changing things without testing correctly.

If you setup a brand new location in the way you’re describing you get the required results. You’re impacted by old location setup being geared towards the old setup. I have tested with no fixed bins on bin contents and only bin ranking at bin level.

Hi, unfortunately, there is a fee for this.

To start the process of submitting a new support request from the Business Central administration center

    Hi Josh,

Thanks for the reply. We did test it out in a dev environment, but the more you use it you real environment you begin to realise that this issue occurs, where you have items across multiple bins.

I think possibly the best workaround for this issue like you say would be to set up a fresh warehouse location and then the settings will have no leftover issues from where Directed Put Away and Pick. Then copy over all of the location/bin/stock data into this new warehouse and archive off the old one. I'll give this a test on my demo environment.

Essentially there is a fault where the system is leaving some sort of gremlins in the background after disabling the Directed Put Away and pick, the Warehouse should really revert back to settings as if it was set up as a new location (as it is not fully disabling the features). For me none of the previous features should interfere and cause errors as these should be disabled when that button is unchecked.

To me that is just the definition of racketeeing

"A criminal entity causes a problem and sells protection against that problem."
