Active Directory password change policy disconnects CRM outlook

Hello all,

I am having a problem with CRM where we have a policy at my workplace that we must change user passwords every 30 days. When this happens, the authenticated password for connecting to CRM via outlook plugin will not work. I just get a screen that says CRM disconnected, but no prompt to ask for a new password.

I know there are ways to get it back up and running with a new password and that is what i have been doing, but i want a more long term solution. If i have to go through all clients every 30 days re-configuring with a new password, it will take a lot of time.

Is there a solution present for this? Anyway to get seamless password integration? or instead of getting the disconnect screen, maybe prompt for the new password...

Anything more difficult then prompting for a new password and our Sales team may be reluctant to use the software.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you

    HI Safman,

Are you using crm 4 or 2011?  On premises or via IFD ?

If a user changes his/her password, the outlook crm client should prompt the user for a new uid/pwd.

    We are using CRM 2011.

And I believe it is On premise and IFD combined.

The web portal works fine because they are asked to enter a username and password each time they sign on.

But with Outlook they are never prompted for a password, then when they change there AD password the CRM Outlook plugin just sais Disconnected but never prompts for a new password.

This forces us to either remove the connection entry and re-add it or remove the Credential  Manager entry to force it to re-prompt for a password.

    Thank you for your help!

Did anyone find a fix for this issue? I'm currently facing the same issue.

I am having the same problem, only known fix I am aware of at this time is to close outlook and run the Dynamics CRM configuration wizard and delete/recreate the company...this is a huge pain to our sales team. No other feedback from Microsoft or otherwise?

EDIT: we are on CRM 2011, on premise with IFD/ADFS deployed

    Hi,

Are you on UR 3 ?

Does changing the password break it before it expires? Or

    only when it expires?

FIgured this out recently myself - turns out when you select "remember password" you are creating a new entry in the Windows Password Vault, which is why you don't get a prompt - the password vault is still passing the old password for you. If you selected "remember password" when setting up your client settings, then whenever you change your password, you will need to open the windows password vault and update (or delete) the entry for "Microsoft_CRM_https://%your_URL_here%

in windows 7, click Start, search for "Manage Windows Credentials", I just enter "Vault", or "Credentials", click on the search result for Manage Windows Credentials and looks for the above mentioned entry under "Generic Credentials" and you can update your password - or just delete the entry, which will cause outlook to prompt for the password the next time you open and close it.

EDIT: this will apply to any situation in which you have selected to remember the password when setting up the company URL and then the password changes.

Thanks for the input. This helped me solve the problem in out organization... Or at least contain it. We are running CRM 2013 SP1 onprem with IFD.

The question is if there is any way to automatically update this vault entry when the password is changed. I'm thinking some kind of script of similar?
