Running two different receipt printers?

Hi.

I'd like to know if it is possible to run two different receipt printers from my RMS? I have a small POS printer which uses 80mm thermal paper for receipts, work orders, quotes, etc. but I'd like to add another A4 laser printer just for use with account customers. When goods are added to a customer's account I'd prefer to give him an A4 printout advice note rather than the little till receipt. Is this possible? If so, how do I set it up? An A4 size printer would also be useful to print off purchase orders and reports, but how do I set a specific printer for a specific task?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Biddy.

    Open Store Operations Manager

Database Menu -> Registers -> Register List

Select the register and click the Properties button

Enter the info on the "Receipt Printer 2" tab.

Hi tlogan. Many thanks for your reply.

    When you say

Enter the info on the "Receipt Printer 2" tab.

what info? I'm not sure what info I'm meant to be entering. How do I tell it to sent receipts/etc to the POS printer and account customer paperwork/reports/purchase orders/etc to the A4 printer automatically?

    Sorry if I'm being dumb.

    Regards, biddy.

Have you looked at that screen?  There are 5 options, none of which I can tell you what to pick without knowing how your computer is setup and how you want it to work.

    1. Do you want this printer to print receipts? If so, so you wnat it every time or do you want it to prompt the cashier each time?

    2. Is this printer setup as a windows printer or is is configured to use OPOS? (personally, I'd probably set it up as a windows printer since it's a laser printer)

    3. Windows device name - if you click the Windows Start menu and select printers and faxes it will list the Windows printers available.  FInd the one you want to print to and enter it's name (exactly as it is in printers and faxes) in the Windows device name field.

    4. Options - do you want to Journal these receipts? if so, check the box

    5. What receipt format do you want? Click the magnifying glass button and select it.  If you don't have the format you want, that a whole different issue.

Hi tlogan. Again, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have looked at that screen. I realise you can't pick the 5 options for me. They all seem pretty straightforward...

...This, I think, is where I need the help and advice. Are you saying it is possible for my system to be set up to do this, but it will be beyond my capabilities to configure it? Is it not something I can be 'talked through'? Is it something I'll need to get someone with more experience to come in and set up for me?

     Thanks again for your time.

    Regards, biddy.

Yes, it is possible to do what you want.  Whether it is beyond your capabilities, I cannot say because I do not know you.

If the receipt format you want doesn't exist then you can certainly create one yourself if you feel comfortable doing so...

Store Operations Manager ->Database -> Registers -> Receipt Formats

The easiest way is to copy an existing one and modify it's properties.  If there's not one that is close to what you want for creating a copy, then click the new button. Enter a name & desc then click the magnifying glass to pick an XML file to use.  If none of those will do what you want then it may be time to call a MS Partner to assist.
