How to do quality control of received goods?

Hi, i was looking for ways to measure on item quality on AX.

our client is a sheet coil distributor, and every sheet coil purchased, they want to first check the thickness of the surface, what feature in AX can be use for that?

Why not use the Quality Module?

Is this just a 'pass fail'measure for acceptance and never need be used again?

( or does the data need to be held against each piece - in which case are the sheets serialised? labelled? if not then how will you know which sheet goes with which thickness later?)
