server test for new server

Posted on by 950

Hi everybody,

We were planning to delocate our servers, and wanted to check the performance before doing so.

We planned to check some operations with the stores connecting to the new server to check real time performance too, so we made an image of the present server, and plan to check with the stores. I wanted to make it following the next steps (inorder not to have any influence on the actual production server that we still use).

What do you think, I am forgetting something? :

1 Backup DB for the 3 stores.(planning to test at 3 different stores)

2 Restore DB with another name, to make a “test” DB in the stores.

3 Backup HQ DB, restore HQ DB at the NEW SERVER with another name to make a test DB.

4 Disconnect client server (both new server and production server) and client HQ in the 3 shops.

5 Set up Store operation manager to use the test DB in the 3 stores.

6 Set up client server for the 3 stores to connect at the new server instead of the other one.

7 Setup new server HQ server to listen to the new stores.

8 Make the tests.

9 When test over, close the HQ server in new serve and Server clients in stores

10 Re-setup server clients in store to use the normal production DB (and set up store operation manager)

11 Restart HQ server in production.

Over

What do you think, missing a point?

M.

So you want to run all your stores from a central server? I hope you have a lot of bandwidth! Sounds very expensive.

    Hi Jeff,

I want to test the performance of the new server, to see if he responds fast or if I forget the idea of delocalise it.

So the only thing I thought of was to create a test database in the store, a test database in the new server who will become the HQ, and synchronize them make a few transactions and reports, make a WK401 and see time reaction.

Thus, the steps I thought of.as I do not want to use the production DB for that.

    Are my steps that strange?

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
