How to get the value of the parent record when child record loads?

Hello,

On the Opportunity entity, I have a field called, "Status For Sales Commissions" and I want the value of this field to be carried over to the child entity.  There I have a field called, "Opportunity Status Field."  I can get the value to come over when I create a new child record from the Opportunity record, but when I update the Stat For Sales Commissions field on the Opportunity record and go back into my existing record on the child entity, the Opportunity Status Field isn't getting updated.  What is the best way to get this to update correctly?

Thank you.

I solved this other issue by using the Change status in the workflow rather than update record.  Thank you.

Here is what I mean:  You can see that the Status Reason field is on one screen but not the other.

This is the case.  But how else could I update the true field that I need to update when it doesn't show up on the workflow screen?  Hope this makes sense.

May its somehow getting updated and trigger the business rule causing the unsaved changes? try to deactivate the businee rule to confirm if this is it.

I do have  a business rule that is setting another field value.  The reason I have that is because like on the Opportunity record there is a field called Status Reason.  On the Sales Commissions or Sales Incentives entity, there is a field called, Status Reason.  But, when you select Update record in the workflow, the Status Reason field isn't showing on the Sales Commissions/Incentives form field to tell the system to update the value.  It is on the form itself, just not when you look under the workflow.

I don't think unsaved changes has anything to do with workflow as workflow runs on server side whereas unsaved changes appears due to ui changes. It is possible that based on the values changed by workflow, some JavaScript or Business rule is changing the value of the field hence crm is showing unsaved changes.

If you run developer tool (12), you can execute "Xrm.Page.data.entity.getDataXml();" which will give you the exact data which crm is thing hs changed, based on that you can find the related js or business rule.

    Hope this helps.

One more thing I just noticed....when the workflow runs, it makes the changes correctly on the child entity, but then it says unsaved changes.  I do I get it to save those changes automatically.  So if I run a report, I want to see the correct data.

    Hi,
