Hi,

I have one base solution on source environment named for e.g. "base solution " with version 1.0.0.0,

now created two patches for this solution  as follows:

  1. base solution patch 1 version 1.0.1.0
  2. base solution patch 2 version 1.0.2.0

Exported  this patches from source environment and imported on target environment, on target environment  have base solution of version  1.0.0.0  ,now  I have above two patches on Target environment.

On source environment , clicked on clone a solution option, so all patches are merged into base solution with version updated to 1.1.0.0. and  now exported this package and tried to import it on target environment, but it is failed ,also I'm not getting "stage for upgrade" option while importing this clone solution on Target environment.

on target environment  have base solution with version 1.0.0.0,and also two patches

  1. base solution patch 1 version 1.0.1.0
  2. base solution patch 2 version 1.0.2.0

    Hi,

please follow this article and scroll to headline "Update a solution":

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../mt593040.aspx

As far as I understand you are trying to do an unsupported update scenario with using unmanged solutions on source and target system.

If on the target system you would have managed solution for each base, patch1 and patch 2 deployed and you would try to Import the rolled up managed solution this would actually work (as written in the article).

But in your scenario the target system also contains the unmanaged solution with the patches.

Once you create a patch for an unmanged solution the base solution will become locked for any changes or updates. This is also the reason why you cannot import the rolledup solution.

Hope you can kind of follow my explanation.

    Cheers,

    Andreas

    Hi,

Thanks for Reply, so you are saying to hold a solution(i.e. "stage for upgrade")can be done with managed solutions. Because I'm trying this with unmanaged solutions on both environment.

    Hi,

yes, as descibed above, the target system should have managed solutions of each, base, patch1 and patch2.

Then on the source system export a rolled up managed solution. With this solution you can now update the managed solutions on the target system.

    Cheers,

    Andreas
