Pick+Backwards flushing method with routing link code and scrap on consumed components

Hello,

We want to use the pick+backwards flushing method for our consumption postings with link code to match consumption with actual output. However, there seems to be a problem as we have default scrap quantities for consumed items and for example:

1). we have a carton box with 10% scrap ratio - when we want to produce 10 items we have to use 11 carton boxes. However, when we post 1 item, it consumes 2 carton boxes. Next 1 item posting consumes 2 carton boxes as well. And when we want to post the 6th output of 1 item the system has the error as there are no carton boxes left.

2). If we post 10 items with 1 posting it will work okay.

Do you have any workaround for this situation?

Thanks in advance

What rounding precision is on the carton item?

This is happening because it will not issue 0.1 cartons.

If you pick 1 carton, with 10% scrap - you need 1.1 cartons.  This is rounded up to 2 cartons.

You'll either need to do the backflushing on finishing the production order as opposed to with each individual pick, or you'll need to define Carton's so you can have decimal quantities and live with the fact you'll use 9.9 cartons in aa job where you only need 9.  Then you'll have .1 cartons in stock that you'll need to get rid of during cycle counts.

If it were me, I would flush the cartons only at the end of a day's production.

Did it actually help?  It might have created more problems than it solved :)

Yeah, it's definitely inconvenient that this functionality does not work with rounding precision of 1. However, it seems we have no choice :)

    Hi,

After trying different methods we are back to manual that is very inconvenient for us. I think it should be considered a bug and be fixed with future updates.

    Thanks

    Hi,

You can put it in as a product request, but it is hard to change this to make it work for your specific case and not mess up other users.

You can't actually take a carton and cut it into smaller pieces - so you must use full cartons.  If your staff pick an uneven quantity (ie: A carton holds 8, but they pick 9) then how many cartons did they bring over to the production area?  Did they bring 1 (for the 8) or 2 (so the 9th can start a new carton).  If they pick another 9 - the system is going to start over.  This is as designed.

The system won't track that they already brought a carton and they therefore won't need a 3rd when the next 9 are brought.  That's not backflushing.

We have made modifications to the system so that we stop issuing materials once the backflush quantity has been issued - but it is custom code.  Maybe Microsoft should add this  - but it's a long shot that they would.  It's a very specific use case, and there are other ways to work around.
