Inventory blocking in bulk

Hi,

I have a scenario where some of our customers would be requesting large orders. But the order creation can take dew days due to the paperwork etc and hence i want to block the required stock as soon as the request is received. I have to block stock from several warehouse locations on multiple items. I may have several customers requesting large orders in a day and i am looking for a solution that i can use to block the stock in bulk.

I explored inventory blocking. It's quite manual. Also this doesn't allow partial blocking from a location. Some times i may only need a part of the stock from one location

Can you suggest any other solutions? I can also write some code if there is a better solution.

I am on AX 2012 R3 (CU 10). I am using advanced warehouse management.

Thanks

Jason.

    Hello Jason,

Based on what you write in regards to the blocking and flexibility needed, I think it might be necessary doing some customizations / development here if the manual workarounds are not good enough and consume too much time.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Thanks for your response. Do you have any suggestions on the best approach to make this customization? I was thinking of customizing the functionality behind the inventory blocking so that i can execute the same from a list of items/warehouse combination.

    Thanks

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

That might work but I am not a developer :-D

Let's please wait for some other 'technical' community members to respond.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Jason,

I would suggest to investigate why there is paperwork and why it takes several days. Are you able to find a procedure to create the sales order and put it on-hold for delivery? In that case, you can use the standard reservation logic and don't have a chance to cripple the inventory update logic. It will then also have the information for which customer the inventory was blocked.

    Hi  Andre,

Creating a sales order and putting it on hold can help me with my scenario.

    Thanks

    Jason
