Quoting Custom Products

I need to know how I can easily quote customers custom products.

We have about 600 base model products which can be sold stand alone and about 100 different items that can be added to any base model to create a custom product.

1: How can I easily quote a custom made product to a customer? An idea had was to have the list of base items and possible a pop up box of custom items that could be checked to add on, not sure if this would work or how it could be done.

2: Each additional add on has its own part code for example: Maple top = MT, Stainless Steel = SS, Casters = CS

Add on items are added to a base model, example: 36-244-MT-CS (adding maple top and casters)

Is it possible to automatically create a new part number that is simply combining the add on items to the base model?

Gave this  option a try and based on what we wanted it cost more than we paid for our CRM. So I think I'm going to have to get creative. Thanks for the insight though.

    Hi Adam,

In that instance you would need a developer to write some code for you to check for blanks while creating the number

    Hi Adam,

Mark has some good ideas but you may want to look at a custom configurator which will give you a ton of functionality that you will probably want to get into in this model and would provide your sales team great functionality around this process.

    Examples:

    https://www.experlogix.com/

    www.e-consolutions.com/.../product-configurator

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thanks,

This is perfect, but what about part numbers that can be longer? Some of the add ons might have 3, 4 or 5 letters. Additionally there may be up to 6 or 7 items added on. How would it account for spaces that may or may not be blank?

An add on item of varying lengths could be the first item listed, the third, etc, etc. The items themselves do have a set order in which they are placed. But the part number only goes in order to the next item that is chosen.

34-244-APH-CT,   38-24-MT-APH-CS, etc, etc. Would the empty potential values cause a problem or is whatever is in the field just whatever is in the field?

If all the sections of the part number are used all the time you could create 4 new fields (1 for each section)

then when you create the product you complete the fields and on save have a workflow that takes the 4 values and creates it as a prodictID

    So

    Field 1 - 36

    Field 2 -244

    Field 3 -MT

    Field 4 - CS

    Then the workflow would say

    Update ProductID (Field1-Field2-Field3-Field4)

I'll look into this more, thank you. Do you happen to have any suggestion on how to go about combining the part numbers?

    Hi Adam

you could use Suggested Products which is a OOB item

    www.microsoft.com/.../define-related-products-to-increase-chances-of-sales.aspx

This will allow you to cross sell
