RMS 2.0 / SQL Express 2005 upgrade to SQL Express 2008 R2 on Store Server and POS, but HQ running SQL 2005 Enterprise

Hi folks,

We are hitting the 4GB limit on the SQL Express 2005 deployed to our RMS Store Operations servers at the stores.

We are planning on upgrading these SQL Express 2005 to SQL Express 2008 R2 (10GB limit) and we wondering if there is any compatibility issue we should be aware of.

Since we will continue using the Express edition, there should not be any extra licensing requirements (CALs), right?

Plus, our back-end SQL engine (RMS Headquarters) will stay on SQL 2005 Enterprise edition.

Looking forward to your comments.

Thanks,

...Alex

    _Alex,

Should not be a problem.  SQL2k8 is officially supported with RMS SP3.  R2 next month when SP4 comes out.

No CALs needed for the Express version.

FYI, SQL2k5 mainstream support ends in April.  You should start migrating to SQL2k8 R2.

    Jeff,

    Thanks for your prompt response.

Where did you get the official statement that SQL2K8 is supported with RMS SP3?

Plus, where can I check the RMS SP4 release date?

    Please let me know.

    ...Alex,

Look in the release notes of the SP3 or if you have CustomerSource access; https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/servicepacks/rms-20-sp3

SP4 was announced to about 50 resellers two weekends ago, so most don't know about unless they read my postings on the reseller board.

The current plan is that it will be available on March 1st to resellers and then 3 months later to their customers, unless one sells RMS to a new customer that uses the built-in credit card functions.  RMS PCI compliance ends on March 2nd for new installs.

After the FP fiasco, I wouldn't be installing it immediately, wait for a few of us to do some testing.

Thanks for your prompt response and support :)

FP fiasco? Please share a link to read about this.

    UPDATE.

FP = Feature Pack, I got it from your other posts.
