Historic Financials - Live OData Connection from BC to Excel for Trial Balance

Posted on by 20
Hello,

I'm looking to connect my financial model directly to our business central trial balance.

The 'manual' way of connecting my models in the past is to download the trial balances as at the month end, save them to a folder and then use power query to bring them into excel as a table of 'actuals'. Whilst this process works i'd like it to be more automated.

I have experiment using an  OData connection to ObjectID 5502. What I get by using that ID is the live trial balance. Is there a way to get month end summaries into Excel? Can anyone recommend a way to do that?

The alternative I thought would be to have a hard coded opening trial balance and then connect to the GL entries report to get the movements.

Many thanks in advance,
David

I would definitely be possible to create a API that gives you those data.
But I think it would be a more future proof option to create a Power BI dataset and then connect Excel to your Power BI dataset.
Could be an option worth looking into.
