Properties & Production Scheduling in AX 2012

Hi,

I have three operation Paint Black, Paint Red and Paint Brown.

I want all the items (for example - having property Black) to be scheduled next to next. Similarly for property Red and Brown.

I attached these properties to their respective operation and tried to schedule these production orders with finite property but they are always getting scheduled in the sequence they are selected (and properties are being ignored).

Please note that properties are not attached to work centers (not in working time template) and only to operation (on route). Properties are also not attached to production items.

Can anyone help me to achieve what I wanted to ?

    Hi.

I have the same problem. I alredy did some tests and it seems that you have to asign the property to the resourse using the calendar.

I keep working and let you know if I find the answer.

    Hello Rahul,

Andrea is right. The property field on the item has some sort or relation to the property field on the calender, which is attached to the resource. With this in mind you can now set the system up so it will for example plan all the black color paint jobs on a Monday and the red color on a Tuesday. You also have to plan with 'Finite property'. This is the only way AX can do some sort of automatical sequencing.

You can also use this field to manually determine a sequence by sorting directly on the grid, perhaps group the planned production orders and plan the orders according to determined sequence.  In order to get a sequence from a light to a dark color you probably have to rename you property field as well so you can sort on it. For example:

    01 Red

    02 Brown

    03 Black

    Hopefully this answers your question.

    Hello Jeroen & Andrea,

    Thanks for your reply.

Setting up properties on item or production will schedule the production next to next (not an operation) and our objective here is to cancel the setup time if two operations having same properties are schedule next to next.

Moreover we can not set the properties for each product dimension color - I.e. my item A has product dimension color set up with three values Black, Brown and Red and we can only set the properties at the item level.

Also we cannot assign different properties at the same time to same resource which is required in my case if we have to set the properties to working time calender attached to resource. Also ideal way is to setup properties on operation or route as I understood from the document on scheduling.

    Hope this helps.

I continue my trial and error approach around properties and scheduling and keep you posted if I find the answer.

    Hi Rahul,

I have a similar issue in that I want to group similar jobs but not have to define a static property on the resource calendar (they do not want to have to hard-define the schedule on the resource calendar as they don't know what their demand will be ahead of time in a make to order shop).

Did you ever find a solution to your issue or a workaround that you might be able to suggest?

    Thanks,

    Craig.
