Pulling a list for Account vs. Contact in Advanced Find

I'm having trouble pulling all of our contacts for email sends when using Advanced Find. For some reason, using "Contact" as the main criteria, then following that with relationship type filtering is returning about half of what doing the same thing with "Account" does. BUT, even when we use Account, it's only pulling the primary contact it seems, which means we're still missing thousands of contacts. For example, I have a company with 20 contacts, so when I pull this Account for an email send, does it pull to those 20 contacts? Or just the primary contact?

Our system seems to be only pulling the primary contact, this is meaning that we're not able to pull the other contact because they're not returning in our searches.

We use relationship type as our main way of sorting contacts for our email marketing.

For us, pulling Contacts exclusively is missing many people, so we're transitioning to using Accounts as our main pull criteria to hopefully pull a wider amount of people in our database. So I'm hoping your help will streamline this for us!

In addition, try to use contact instead of account because if you send email ,system will send email to only the the primary contact of that account.  It won't send all the contact associated .but contact only one account will be mapped.  So it's advisable to query from contact entity rather accounts to send mails.

Hope this helps. If suggestion resolved your query Mark it as verified to close the thread

RE: Pulling a list for Account vs. Contact in Advanced Find

    Hi Adrian,

With advanced find, if you put "Contact" as the main criteria then it will pull all the contact records and it can display details of the related record (any look up field on contact like Company Name). In addition if you put some filter conditions then it will return the record based on that condition but it will only return the contacts.

The same applies if you put "Account" as the main criteria.

So to answer you question "I have a company with 20 contacts, so when I pull this Account for an email send, does it pull to those 20 contacts? Or just the primary contact? " - Cause your main criteria is Account, it will return that account and in addition it will display related records of look field i.e. primary contact.

I think you need to retrieve the contacts in two separate quer

    1) Returning contacts related to Company Name by putting main criteria as "Contact" with a filter to Company Name contains data

    2) Returning accounts related to Primary Contacts  by putting main criteria as "Account" with a filter to Primary Contact contains data

In both the above query, you need to display/ use the email id from the contact entity to send an email.

I hope this helps. If my post answers your question, please mark it as helpful/ verified.
