Good day. I took a backup of the company and the database yesterday before the finance team closed the accounting year. Now it seems all did not go well so they want me to restore the backup that i took the previous. Please how can i go about this as am now getting used to GP 2010. Pleas i would appreciate if anyone could assist with the necessary steps to complete this task. My Platform is Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

When dealing with backups and restores I would suggest seeing if there is someone in your company with knowledge of how to do this to minimise the risk of problems.

That said, to restore a database through GP, follow these steps:

    1. Log into a different company to the one you want to restore as sa (I think DYNSA wll also work)

    2. Click the Microsoft Dynamics GP menu, then Maintenance, then Restore.

    3. In Company Name select the company you want to restore.

    4. In the bottom field select the file you want to restore.

    5. Click OK.

Thanks a lot Ian Grieve for offering to help. But soon after i posted this issue on the forum, i got assistance from a colleague here to the restore via the SQL Management Studio and i think it worked fine. I would now set up a test company and try the various options like you suggested. Am grateful

    Hi Nana,

I would recommend looking at CustomerSource first before posting as both of these are in KB articles. You can use the following for your test company question:

872370 Set up a test company that has a copy of live company data by using Microsoft Dynamics GP on MSDE 2000, SQL Server 2005 Express, or SQL Server 2008 Express
