Accounting distributions on Sales order line

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I have a case where I would like to split one sales order (and later invoice) line into few different financial dimensions. Since accounting distributions function is not available on Sales order, I would appreciate any ideas how to solve this issue. Creating more Sales order lines is an option I would like to avoid. Thank you.

    Hi Stasa Kotnik,

Would a retrospective allocation via the GL ledger allocation rules help?

    Hi Ludwig,

thank you for the idea, but allocation via the GL allocation rules is too late, since the sales order lines have to be distributed before posting the invoice.

    Hi Stasa,

Another option is to use Misc. charges attached to the line (type Account to Account).

    Hi Anton,

Thank you for the idea, but I'm not getting the expected results. Misc. charges are increasing the the line amount.

    Hi Stasa,

In card of Misc. Charge code, you have to select “Ledger account” in fields for Debit and Credit posting – in this case the system will not increase / decrease invoice amount during posting.

Hi Stasa, I could imagine that posting definitions might help you fixing your requirement in standard AX. Yet, I have not used them in a life environment and have not found a good source of information with some real life examples except the following TechNet site. Problably check if this might help: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh412236.aspx

    Best regards,

    Stasa,

You basically have two options. First you can setup your revenue main account as an allocation account. If you setup the main account as an allocation account, it will split the revenue during posting. The second option is to split the sale into multiple lines.  Which one is better really depends on your comment where you stated that you need the distributions prior to posting.  You didn't state why this is necessary but if that is the case, your only option is to split the lines.

Posting definition isn't an option because it is only available for source documents.  This includes any documents that have implemented the source document and accounting frameworks.  The SO hasn't done this yet (which is also why it doesn't have accounting distributions).

Thank you for the ideas Kristi. For now we will leave it as it is and try with multiple lines.

I agree with you that using posting definitions in this case is not the solution.

    Hi Ludwig,

I'm familiar with posting definitions (we usually use them at our clients), but as Kristi already mentioned, they are not an option with SO.  Thank you for your ideas. For now we will use multiple lines.
