I tried backing up ASIEXP8` table in the DYNAMICS db ... drop and create ASI_SmartList_Export_Favorites ...
However it didn't appear to work as I still received the same error. It did rebuild the ASIEXP81 table and loaded it with exactly the same data as was loaded before.... and yes I have ran Grant.sql on all Dynamics and company db's since migrating and upgrading the data.

Yes ... that worked ... it wasn't clear (at least to me) which table was to be dropped and recreated. I first dropped and recreated the SmartList Favorites Master Table ... then I launched GP 2016 .. which immediately and successfully initiated SmartList. I then deleted ASIEXP81 table and used the script "select * into ASIEXP81 from ASIEXP81_2016_08" (my backup table. I then re-ran Grant.sql to ensure that this table was loaded into DYNGP schema.

You are dropping and creating ASI_SmartList_Export_Favorites which is actually ASIEXP51 table.
The one you are backing up is ASIEXP81 (SmartList Favorites Master).
try to drop create SmartList Favorites Master table and then move your data back to your table.
