When a dimension value is suspended for a legal entity using legal entity override, it is no longer available in that financial dimensions list when in a journal.

When you manually type in the suspended value you get a yellow warning message that the value has been suspended.

However, it is just a warning, because if you leave it there, and post, the journal will post and will post with the suspended value.

Is this true for everyone? The suspension is just removing it from the valid list but still allows to be posted to? I thought the suspension also prevented posting, but it does not?

Can anyone confirm one way or another?

This is from Brad Bateman in a Yammer group, and I think it will shed some light on this strange behavior.

Dimension validation issue where you have to "Clear all dimension caches" to fix. According to support (SR2507090040004360), there was a flight DimensionStorageSegmentCollectionQueryOptimizationFlight which apparently was enabled in customer environments and had a bug which caused validation to be bypassed for Ledger dimensions and would allow financial dimensions which are suspended to be posted.

Although this feature ("flight") has now been turned off for all customers, cached ledger combinations may still exist as "valid."

The issue may not be reproducible in your non-prods because these dimension validation cache tables appear to be cleared during database refreshes.

The issue for us occurred from June 20 to June 27 (based on dates in the dimension*status cache tables), but we were still seeing issues today July 10 related to this due to cached dimension validation records which were flagged as valid even though they were not. We saw this issue on 10.0.42 PQU4 and PQU5, but I'm not not sure which other versions were impacted. The main issue we saw related to this was that financial dimensions which were flagged as "suspended" were allowed to post, but we haven't fully analyzed all recent postings to know if any other advanced rule structures were bypassed.

To fix, you need to:

Go to System administration > Periodic tasks > Data Maintenance

Go to the "Performance" tab.

Select the "Clear all dimension caches" action, and click "Run now"

This post is just an FYI in case you are experiencing similar issues where invalid dimension combinations are being allowed to post

Hi,

I dont know what is solution is verfied, however any suspended dimension values does not post by system, if this is posting, then its a bug and not by design.

@Brad Bateman All I can say is that it's just how Dynamics F&O has been working for me/us, and should as far as I understand the documentation. However I stand to be corrected.

As to why it has been working for you since 2016 I don't know, maybe it's a flight or a different quality update in your production environment? If you create a question then maybe others can chip in.

I don't agree with the current accepted answer here. Suspended accounts should not be able to be posted. When you click "Post" then it should validate the journal, and one of those validations is to check if the financial dimension has been suspended. If a dimension is suspended, then normally you get a validation error that says "{Financial dimension name} {Financial dimension value} is suspended" (i.e. "Cost Center 00040 is suspended"). It has always worked this way in the past for us (since 2016), but recently we had a scenario where a suspended financial dimension was allowed to post in production which we can't reproduce in our non-prods. We have a SR open for this issue.

Yes, it's expected. Suspension will only hide the values from the lookups, but user and automatic postings will not be blocked.
If you set "Do not allow manual entry" on the value, users will not be able to select the value, but automatic postings will still be possible.

If you truly want to block the postings, then remove them from the accounting structure.

Edit, as part of continuation of this thread and me not being able to delete my answer: This is verifiable in a demo Contoso's USFM legal entity but I do agree it goes against how I expect postings should work.

Notice there is a split between suspension and manual entry. However I don't know if there is some ledger parameter that might cause this difference, that I need access to the system to troubleshoot.
