How do I record User changes in the database log?

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I have set up the recording of user deletions but would also like to record changes to user details such as the addition or removal of security roles.

For user deletions I selected table "User Information" and clicked Delete.

For user changes I tried selecting the same table and clicked Update but no changes are being recorded.

RE: How do I record User changes in the database log?

There is some localization code for this (EEUR) Permission changes log (report) [AX 2012]

Generate and print a report that displays changes to an employee’s permissions to access information, security rights, or user role in Microsoft Dynamics AX. You can select to view the permission changes as an overall list for the employee, or as a breakdown of tables and fields.”

This article describes the  use of the underlying log table and business logic.

A similar question was discussed in an older thread: Database Log - changes to security roles being audited?.

    That's not a relevant link.

Under "Database log setup" I have set "Security user role" on for Delete and Insert but when tested the log entries don't identify either the user or role being deleted/inserted.

RE: How do I record User changes in the database log?

    Hi,

You can use database logging for tracking specific types of changes to AX tables and fields. When you configure logging for a table or field, a record of any change to that table or field is stored in the database log table, sysdatabaselog, in the AX database.

You can use the Logging database changes wizard to set up database logging. The wizard provides a flexible way to set up logging for tables or fields.

Click System administration > Setup > Database > Database log setup. Click New to start the Logging database changes wizard.

    Complete the wizard

It looks more complicated than using the AX GUI.
