Named Printers

I am working with a client that has 5 locations with Tulsa being the Corporate office. When I logged into GP to look at the printers and everyone in every location is set for Picking Tickets to be sent to Tulsa Picking Printer. Is there way to have the KC branch print to their own HP 3800 or the OKC branch print to their desk printers?

    Hi Althea

Named Printers controls the printer destinations inside the Dynamics GP application. It has no control over what the Word application does.

I don't know of how you can control Word's printer. You might be able to use a macro/VBA code to change the default printer.

    Hi Dave,

I'm hoping you get this link...  we just upgraded a customer to GP18R2 and they are now using Word templates.  They have always used named printers so their pick tix, order and pack slip go to different printers automatically.  We cannot get this to work now that they are using templates.  Is there any override on this to not use the Word default printer?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jothi

    You beat me to it.

I was going to point out my articles:

    blogs.msdn.com/.../using-named-printers-with-terminal-server.aspx

    blogs.msdn.com/.../using-named-printers-with-terminal-server-revisited.aspx

    Alex

You need to set up a template user for each location and assign the users for the location to the template.

Then use User Mode printers (instead of the default System Mode) and set up only the Template Users with the printer for that template user's location.

If possible have the printers defined on the Terminal Server so it is available at all times.

When the system looks for a printer, it will not find a setting for the user. It will then look for a setting on the template user that the current user is assigned to.

That way you only need to set up one user per location rather than every user in the location.

    The articles have more details.

First off - you are running on Terminal Server or Web Client?
