Transfer order

Hi all,

Can we create a transfer order in AX 2012 R3 without mentioning a quantity in the transfer order line?

What I need basically is,    create a transfer order to transfer a specific stock from one warehouse to another, but I cannot specify a quantity in the transfer order line as I need to check what is and how much is available in the reservation window and need to transfer whatever the quantity I reserve through the reservation form.

If I mention a specific quantity in the transfer order line, it'll not allow me to reserve more than that quantity.

Any suggestions please ?

Thanks

If tracking by serial anyway, each serial will need to be identified/picked, so this seems a  good option.

    Hi john_ax_2012

Since you are using the Serial dimension, I have an idea, which you may (or may not) like!

Create a new transfer order. In the Lines area, hit the 'Inventory' button and use 'Dimensions display' to enable the Serial dimension.

Add a new line to the transfer order. Enter the item number, and click the drop-down for Serial number. In the drop-down, click the 'On-hand' tab, and make sure 'Range inventory dimensions' is ticked. Find and select the serial number that you wish to Transfer. At the same time, make a mental note of the available quantity. On the transfer order line, type in this quantity.

It means having one transfer order line per serial, which is why you may not like it.

    hi magic1949,

It'll work with a transfer journal but it'll be a quick stock dimension change only and this doesn't fit for my purpose.

I need the goods to be shipped out from one party and to be in a transit warehouse while being transported and receive by another party.

Transfer journal doesn't serve this process.

    thanks

    It will still work,

However, I suggest raise this as an enhancement request because it is a practical requirement that many will utilise.  There are many industries that want to sell out whatever is in stock e.g. a jeweller sells a chain, he wants a replacement, but he does nor necessarily care whether its the same design  or length just  as long as there is always a good stock of chains to sell.  Similarly he might have a display stand for 24 watches, and  every time he sell a watch he needs a replacement but  doesn't care whether it the same model because the fashions are constantly changing, He just needs the main warehouse to replenish with X watches of whatever models they have.

In a discrete production environment, I have a production order for 100 but the main warehouse can only send me enough components to make 25, OK I'll take those thank you and get started and get something on the shelf. However fro manufacturing its far more complex to mentally run mrp in your head.

Similar problem in manufacturing you have to firm a order to get shortage report, but ideally we want to know what we can make not what we can't.

A clunky workaround is to extract the inventory detail to excel and to create the transfer order there,  and then to reimport.

no, I want to do this via the transfer orders as this is inter-warehouse transfer.

    RE: Transfer order

    Hi Andre,

    What I meant is,

I have a quantity in the stock, but I don't know how much I have. All I need is to reserve whatever the available quantity manually (I have serial number for items, each serial number can have a specific quantity, I want to reserve the serial numbers I need) in the reservation window. And I want that total quantity to be transferred.

Since I don't know the quantity at the time I create the transfer order line, I cannot specify the quantity in the line before I go to the manual reservation form.

Hope this is clear for you now.

Thanks for your help in advance anyway.

Will a transfer journal work for you?

    Hi John,

Without a quantity, AX will not be supporting you to transfer goods. So this has no use. Can you elaborate on the reason why the quantity is not available?
