AX Silent install Error Code 3 using PDQ deploy

Hello,

I am working through a deployment of Dynamics AX 6.3.164.0 using PDQ Deploy 14, release 3, and keep running into a wall. The exact text from the error is "setup.exe returned error code 3"

Unfortunately, I am not finding any other logs from the deploy that would shed some light on the issue except some Distributed COM event 10016 entries in the Windows Logs -> System.

I am at a loss and could use some direction.

We are using a parameters file, which I have included below;

AcceptLicenseTerms = 1
HideUI = 1
UseMicrosoftUpdate = 1
InstallClientUI = 1
ClientConfig = 1
ClientConfigFile = \\win-2k8-pdc\AXCONFIG\PRD\AXPRD (USR).axc
CreateClientDesktopShortcut = 1
ClientAosServer = WIN12AXPRDAOS1
AosPort = 2712
AosWsdlPort = 8101
InstallOfficeAddins = 1
InstallRemoteDesktopServicesIntegration = 1
UpdatesPath = \\win-2k8-pdc\AXINSTALL\DynamicsAx\Updates

Thanks,

Darold

    Hello,

    So I have a partial solution that I am still working through. Here is a link to a site that gives more details;

    www.geekshangout.com/customising-an-msi-install-using-orca

    Here is the situation. AX will not allow an install from the MSI files individually, coming back with an error indicating as such.

    The solution was to create a MST file that tells the MSI file that it is OK to run without using the setup.exe file.

    Still working with it as I am getting different errors now but I wanted to include this on the post here.

    Hello,

    So I have found a solution. The way around the issues was to do the entire install of AX via command line. Here is an example of what we used;

    \\win16fp\AX_FILES\AXINSTALL\DynamicsAx\Setup.exe HideUI=1 AcceptLicenseTerms=1 usemicrosoftupdate=1 InstallClientUI=1 clientconfig=1 ClientConfigFile="\\win-2k8-pdc\AXCONFIG\PRD\AXPRD (USR).axc" createclientdesktopshortcut=1  ClientAosServer="ServerName" AoSPort=2712 Aoswsdlport=8101 Installofficeaddins=1 updatespath=\\win-2k8-pdc\AXINstall\dynamicsAX\updates

    Once all the pre-requisite applications were installed, AXsetup ran as expected. Kind of a pain process, but once it was set up, it worked like a charm.
