Managed Solutions in Dynamics 365 CRM

Hi,

In general , Managed solution can't be customized in dynamics CRM. But, recently I understood that , Managed solution in CRM can be customized. It totally depends on the Managed Properties of entity. In the managed properties , we can set properties according to our wish i.e. can be customized or not.

So, now my question  is, what's the difference between Managed and Un-managed solution when the properties of managed solution are set to customizable ?

Thanks in advance for your response !!

    Hello,

When you delete managed solution - all parts of it (modified or not) will be deleted. That will not happen with unmanaged solution.

In addition to above, you can't export managed solution but you can export unmanaged. The option Managed Properties is provided in Managed solution so that you can still allow some properties of your managed solution to be customized keeping others as managed i.e. You can allow the end users to change the display name of your entity but not allow add new forms.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Although there is a managed properties available to modify managed solution but from my personal experience  I would say if you want to make your environment managed  then don't change anything directly in your managed solution.

This is because if you are maintaining managed solution for particular env. means that you delivered packages from your DEV environment and you planned accordingly not to change or develop anything in this environment.

By any chance if you update anything directly,  next time when you want to overwrite another version of managed solution from DEV  in the same managed environment,  the changes you did directly will be overwrite and you need to do additional post deployment activity .

So use managed properties advantages when you know that there is no development is pending on the delivered managed packages.

    In addition above answers -

In the managed solution you can't add/remove any component directly , but unmanaged solution you can do whatever you want as unman aged solution means it is development stage.
