I have had the same issue at numerous clients and here is what I have found out.....
if there is not a connection to the internet ( bad proxy server setting in IE or IE requires a secondary login) then the login process will hang. Once they are connected to the internet & then start GP... no problem. If anyone knows of a dex.ini setting or some override setting somewhere to ignore the internet connection this would be helpful in not requiring users to be connected to the internet before starting GP.
Hello! I'm sorry, I should have posted our findings a long time ago.
We were using Cisco Security Agent for virus protection at the time. We were able to pinpoint that it was scanning our GP10 installations. Once we excluded those folders (specifially "C:\GP10" and related GP10 folders in "%username%/Application Data") from the scans the issue stopped.
We never did find out why it was only happening to a few of our users in finance. The only reason I can think of is they use it a lot more throughout the day. People in HR don't use it as much and might not have noticed, or been more tolerant of the issue. Otherwise, they all had WinXP and the same baseline of patches.
I hope this help you!
We're experiencing the exact same symptoms with our Dynamics GP 10 installation. Has Microsoft acknowledged and identified the issue? Dare I ask if a fix has been identified?
Hi,
i remenber this issue from the old old times, there was a doctor watson issue, do they have defult pritner setup?
how about problem isolation:
1. try recreating their GP user ID.
2. ask somebody else to login on the same pc.
3. have you tried re-install GP client?
hope this helps.
Just curious as to whether you've been able to resolve this. We have similar issues - with just one user. Very frustrating, especially when she loses data.
Hi! Thanks for your reply.
While Dynamics is hanging they are able use other applications (usually just the Office 2007 suite and IE7).
I haven't captured performance counters before. Could you suggest a good program to do so?
Have you tried loading other applications to see if they hang along with GP when the 'System Idle Process' kicks in? I know your issue is intermitent, but that would give us an idea as to whether the issue is confined only to Dynamics GP. In addition, have you captured performance counters for memory and disk?
