Restricting posting to GL Account via multiple Dimension selection

Hi All,

I have set up a dimension called cost centre and wish to limit posting to certain GL accounts to a number of cost centres.

Please note this is not a "Code mandatory" selection purely because for example

GL Account 123456 - Limited to only Cost Centres A, B ,C

GL Account 234567 - Limited to only Cost Centres D, E, F

I have managed to use a single cost centre dimension on the GL account successfully but I wish it to be able to have CC A OR B OR C but not any of the rest.

Is this possible? Please message if I have not been clear enough here.

    Does this mean that user will post only in GL Account if they specify the assigned cost centers to that G/L Account ? Is it ???

    Yes exactly. So for example we only want to allow a posting to a tax account providing the Finance Cost centre is used and not an engineering cost centre or something wacky like that.

    We did that as a separate customization, so users can select in a setup not only one dimension value, but multiple values using "|" between them.

    In theory, you can have that through Dimension Combinations the way that you will create a new dimension, call it "Account", and create the same quantity of values as you have accounts. Then, on the account card put corresponding values of that dimension as defaults. And, setup Dimension Combinations the way that it is needed for you, to allow only certain combination of Account dimension value with your Cost Center dimension value.

    But, I'm not fond of that solution as it is a bit clumsy and requires additional dimension to be used and maintained.

    Thanks Alexander, this maybe clumsy I agree but if it gets to the right result without development work I think this is the way to achieve it.

    Alexander,

    I've looked into it but a little confused.

    You say I need to create a dimension called Account and create same quality of values as the accounts (I'm assuming the GL Account numbers). So assuming that's correct, on the GL Account card I add on the New Dimension Account as a default and set up the dimension combination for Cost Centre & Account.

    If I've followed that correctly surely that means the inputter of the transaction on the GL account must select two dimensions? One cost centre and one account number?

    Is that correct or have I missed something key here?

    Basically, yes, the idea is to have both Account dimension and Cost Center dimension values on each transaction. However, the inputter would not need to select manually Account dimension if you have setup it as a default dimension value on the account card - it would be automatically assigned then to the transaction. So when posting it the inputter would get a message that this Cost Center dimension cannot be used with that Account dimension (which actually would mean "it cannot be used with that account").
