Cannot append a custom entity record to a contact after migration to CRM 2016

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

After migrating to CRM 2016, I have the same problem as this post on another forum (https://www.crmug.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?GroupId=121&MID=16482&tab=digestviewer&CommunityKey=5ab602e5-51fe-4cc2-b467-d970807c0e8a)

There is no solution on it and I didn't find any other information about that. Does anyone have any information on this subject?

Regards
Laurent

So this has change since CRM 2015 ? Is it a new feature or a bug ?

At my opinion it's a bug, a user don't need write right to associate two entities.

I previously speak about custom entity, but it's the same for standard entity. If the user don't have write access to the contact, when he navigate to "Activities", the two link "Add new Activity" and "Add existing activity" are not visible. So it's general and not linked to my customisation...

Write Permission is required when you add any record on Subgrid. If you want to add Custom Entity to Contact record, Contact record must be saved first, Then only you can add custom entity to Contact if Contact has Write Permission.

It has. User has full right on custom entity

If I give write permission on the contact, the "+" button on subgrid or the "Add existing custom entity" on the associated view appear.

But if the contact is on "read only" state, we are not able to add the custom entity. We can go to the custom entity and do the inverse operation (add contact from custom entity), it's working. So I think it's not a right problem!

I did another test, I removed write permission on the custom entity and the same problem come. I'm no more able to add contact with "+" button or "add existing contact". These two links disapears.

Please check if your Custom Entity has Append and Append To permission for the user.
