1:n relationship: Account => Opportunity. I do not get it

Hello there

so I have created a customer field in the Account entitiy, lets say it is called

"Account Type"

where I have a drop-down field saying the account is a Reseller, End-Customer or Both.

Now what I want to do the following: in the Opportunity Entity, I want to pre-populate another Custom Field with this exact value, once the Account has been selected in the opportunity. Meaning: if the Account ABC is of the type "Reseller" in the Account-Entity and someone creates an Opportunity and selects the Account ABC, I want the field in the Opportunity to be automatically populated with "Reseller" (so the price-list can be automatically chosen etc). However, it should still be possible to change the "Reseller" e.g. to "End-Customer" in an Opportunity of the Account ABC.

Now what I did was: I created the custom field in the Account with a new option set, created the custom field in the Opportunity of type "Lookup", went into the details and wanted to create a relationship between the in the Account and in the Opportunity Entity - but here I am stuck. Although the Account custom field shows up, the Opportunity custom field with the lookup does not show up (yes, I have published all changes).

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Andreas

Are you trying to map a option set to a lookup? If so that won't work.

Or did you create the lookup the wrong way and it is on the Account entity to the Opportunity?

The custom field on the opportunity entity not showing up in your mapping screen is a different issue. But, as Jerry indicated, you cannot map dissimilar datatypes. Instead of creating a lookup on the opportunity screen, you could create a optionset, with exactly the same options and indexes as that of the one on Account entity.

Note that mapping will only work if you choose to create an opportunity by navigating from the Account record. That's when the lookup and the mapping value is automatically filled.

If you were to create an opportunity, by selecting the Account record from the lookup, the mapping wont work for you. In this case, you might want to create a sync workflow to populate the value on the Account type.

    Hello

Mapping work only if you create an opportunity by navigating from the Account record.

Mapping work only with same type of information.

    However, the question is :

    - You only need to check the contact information from the opportunity? --> in 2013, use the Quick view form.

    - Do you need to use this information in the opportunity? (for example report) --> create a workflow or a script to copy the information between the entities.

Jerry, Karth, thank you very much for your input!

I think I almost got it but I am not quite there yet:

1)I have the custom field "myabc_customer_type" in the Account entity with a custom option set

2)I created a custom field "myabc_customer_type_match" in the Opportunity entity with a lookup onto the entitiy Account.

3)Then I created a second custom field "myabc_customer_type_display" in the Opportunity of the type "option set"

Now I have to go back to the field "myabc_customer-type_match" in the Opportunity entity and create a relationship between Account.myabcs_customer_type and Opportunity.myabcs_customer_type_match, is that correct?

If so: how can I re-use the options I have created for the field myabcs_customer_type? In the drop-down field when I say "use existing option set" the values do not show up.

If not: what am I doing wrong? What do I not get?

Thanks very much for your help!!

    HI Andreas,

You don't have to create a new relationship ( aka Lookup). The relationship between Account and Opportunity already exist. You will have to just create the mapping between those two optionsets.

Lookout for the relationship opportunity_customer_accounts and opportunity_parent_account within the Opportunity entity. Try to create a new mapping within one of these relationships. You should be good to go. Let me know if this works.

    Thanks
