Is it possible to expand the batch id field in GP10 to 20 characters?

I would recommend looking into the GP PowerPack from WilloWare.com. The PowerPack has a number of Batch-centric enhancements. Without knowing the purpose of the expansion from 15 to 20 characters, it's hard to recommend solid alternatives - perhaps you can elaborate on the business case. My gut is, while with code, all things are possible, the cost and complexity of this kind of customization would be prohibitive.

Not possible, as Batch Number/Batch ID field is of characters 15 and it's storage size is 16.
It is quite common to have such requests requiring to extend the length of a specific field in Dynamics GP. The most common case is to extend the Item number, or short description ...etc
You simply can not, because the field length is not only defined at the SQL level, if you check a specific field length at the database level, you will find the same length defined at the application level. The reason is simply due to dexterity level
Unfortunately, as Almas has said, you can not increase the length of this field. I have seen similar cases in which a work around was provided by adding another field and linking it technically. But that's not your case.
