How to bring our test environment on production level?

Hello,

we're currently running Dynamics CRM 2016 on-premise and we also use a testsystem to validate and implement adjustments and new features.

Now our test-environment is on a data level two years ago and I need to bring it on the level of our production environment, because some features and implementations are different now.

Is there a safe way to update our testsystem to the production level?

Thank you!

Kind regards

Maurice Renz

Do you mean align your test system with the data from Production?

Yes, and not just the data - also the customizations that are different in both systems (e.g. new fields, new forms, new views...)

    Hi Maurice ,

Your questions answer is very difficult without having full knowledge of the environments . For my understanding you could follow below step -

    - Take the Database backup of both DEV and TEST environment.

    -  Identify if any major changes happened in the data model during two years.

    -  Considering your DEV environment having unmanaged solution and test environment having managed solution. If my understanding is correct and you have only one solution then try to overwrite the solution from DEV to TEST/PROD.

    -  During  above step you might be get lots of error due to solution component mismatch, so you might need to check stage for upgrade if solution imports fails.(crmbusiness.wordpress.com/.../dynamics-365-solutions-and-stage-for-upgrade)

    - Once solution deployment done and check all the functionality and necessary data migration.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

If your both the environment are same in term of rollup updates, and you don't have anything in test environment that you want to keep, take db backup from the prod and import it in your test environment and import organization as test org, delete/disable your old test organization. You will get all of your data, your customization which you have in production.
