Frx and link to gl + worksheet

Posted on by 55

I have been unable to find any really good information on using the Link to GL + Worksheet function in FRx.

I am using Great Plains 10. and I need to bring in some history data into my Frx reports that was not put into Great Plains and we are unable to get it in now because the periods have been closed.

Any ideas other than creating a new company and getting the data into Great Plains.

    Hi Bibby,

I have both manuals: 8400B & 8399B reporting design essentials 1 & 2, while both manuals are very useful, I would not recommend them as a teach yourself option. They have only been useful to me in conjunction with in person training. FRX is quite tricky to pick up on your own. I have been using the manuals to try figure out linking to an external worksheet and it has not been easy!

FRX manuals were given to us at the training, I'm not sure where you could get them.

    Thanks, Clodagh

    Hi,

Can you tell me where I can find the training material.  I contacted my vendor who told me "I have not heard of any specific training manuals like this".

If you can tell me where I can download these materials that would be great.  Are they free for download as a partner to a Great Plains vendor?

    Thanks

If you need information regarding FRx report building you should refer to the offcial training material for FRX

there are two course numbers for FRX  8399B_FRX6.7 & 8400B_FRX6.7 you will find the information you need in Chapter 3 of the second course that describes functionality for linking with excel sheets  --> As a partner, you shoul be able to download this material

    Best regards

     Patti,

You have two options.  One is to continue as you suggest, the other is to import the data into your GL via Integration Manager or SQL queries.  Since excel can often (eventually) corrupt, it is critical that your data live somewhere safe, and there are many options for getting it there.  I'd be happy to discuss the options in more detail, if you like.

If, however, the GL + Excel is your preference, I have used that before, and it does work.  Mind you, that was several years ago; I can't remember the specifics, but your local GP reseller should be able to help you set that up pretty easily.

If your local GP reseller is not an option, I can recommend the RSC Group - they're the ones who set this up for me.  You can find their contact info at http://www.rsc.com/company/contact.asp.

If you are interested in an Excel-based report writer that will both replace FRx as your GP reporting tool and it will allow you to  link to data outside of GP (e.g. data sitting in other databases or in Excel sheets), you should look at XL Reporter (www.xlreporter.com).
