Improve the performance of Item Stock Inquiry with Manufacturing

Posted on by 70

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has experienced very slow response time with the item stock inquiry window. We are using Dynamics GP with manufacturing and we have a lot of history which I am sure doesn't help. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for improving other than purging historical data. I wish the window had the ability to filter by date. Typically the wait time for a heavy volume item is as much as 20-30 seconds before any data shows up and it also causes the application to go into that unresponsive state until data is returned which leads to orphaned sessions when users get impatient and force the application to close.

Yes if Richard's suggestion is valid, what table or view supplies the item stock inquiry window and since the only filters available are item number and site wouldn't they already be indexed, I can't imagine item number wouldn't be.

I don't know which table or view supplies the data to the item stock inquiry window and also since the window only allows a filter of item number and site shouldn't those item's already be indexed? Any assistance is greatly appreciated as this is a very popular user window.

You can use MS-SQL to apply suplimental indexes.  If, for example, you are searching by a particular field frequently and that field is not key in one of the existing indexes, searches will be slow.  Adding a suplimental index by that field will help greatly.   One of my customers was waiting 60-120 seconds for data to be returned and a suplimental reduced the search to 1-2 seconds.

Do not apply to many suplimentals.  Typically, more than 10 indexes can cause inserts and updates to slow down!

    Hello Robert,

I was going through unanswered posts and notice this post of yours that was never responded to.  I'm wondering if you still had questions on this particular issue.

    Regards,

    -Greg
