Font selected concateneted and not applied properly

Hi,
When we apply a font to text, it looks like the fonts applied are multiple. When the text is highlighted, the font is Arial, Verdana, sans-serif, all together, even if we selected Arial.
How can we apply only one font to the text?
Thanks!

Can you provide some additional information for folks to assist?
    • Which part of the application are you applying a font to? Is this in an email template, custom email box, rich text area, or something else?
    • What font is used when you send the email?
    • Is this an issue of the font actually coming across incorrectly, or is it that the rich text controls are showing multiple options being selected instead of just one?

    Hello d811eec6-d5bc-442b-b9c6-c9ab820db2c4,

You've encountered a common behavior in email clients and HTML rendering: font fallbacks. Even when you select "Arial" in Customer Insights Journeys email editor, the system (or the email client) often adds fallback fonts to ensure the email looks as intended across different devices and browsers.

Here's a breakdown of why this happens and how to address it:

    Why Font Fallbacks Happen:

    • Font Availability: Not all email clients or devices have every font installed. If "Arial" is unavailable, the client will try the fallback fonts.

    • Rendering Differences: Different email clients render fonts differently. Fallbacks help maintain a consistent look.

    • HTML and CSS: Email HTML and CSS often use font stacks (lists of fonts) to handle these variations.

    •
    •

How to Apply Only One Font (or Minimize Fallbacks):

    1. Use Web-Safe Fonts:

      • "Arial," "Verdana," and "sans-serif" are all web-safe fonts, meaning they are commonly available.

      • However, even with web-safe fonts, fallbacks are often added by email clients.

      • To get the most consistent look, stick to web-safe fonts.

      •
    2. Inline CSS (Most Reliable):

      • The most reliable way to control font styling in emails is to use inline CSS.

      • Instead of relying on the email editor's font selection, manually add the font-family style directly to the HTML of your email content.

      • Example:  <p style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Your text here</p>

      • While we are still using a fallback, we are removing Verdana.

      • To do this within the customer insights journeys email designer.

        • Select the text you want to change.

        • Click the HTML button on the editor toolbar.

        • Add the inline style to the paragraph or div element.

        • Click the HTML button again to return to the visual editor.
        •
      •
    3. Use Custom Fonts (With Caution):

      • You can use custom web fonts in your emails, but this is more complex and less reliable.

      • Many email clients don't support custom fonts, and they might be blocked for security reasons.

      • If you use custom fonts, always provide robust fallback fonts.

      •
    4. Simplify Your HTML:

      • Avoid unnecessary HTML tags or complex CSS that might interfere with font rendering.

      • Keep your email HTML as clean and simple as possible.

      •
    5. Test Across Email Clients:

      • Use email testing tools (like Litmus or Email on Acid) to preview your emails across various email clients and devices.

      • This will help you identify any rendering issues and make necessary adjustments.

      •
    6. Normalize your email template.

      • Many templates come with pre-defined styles. Look to see if there is a style that is overriding your desired font.

      •

    Key Considerations:

    • Email Client Variations: Email clients are notorious for their inconsistent HTML rendering.

    • Mobile Devices: Mobile devices often have their own font rendering rules.

    • Accessibility: Ensure that your font choices are accessible to users with visual impairments.

    Hi Tom,
This is happening in a text block in a custom e-mail. When selecting a font, the selected font does not apply at all, it still states it's another font that is currently applied. The fonts we are trying to use is Helvetica but the font applied id Arial.
    Thanks,

Unless there is a custom web resource or control added to the rich text control, it seems like this is a bug that should be submitted to Microsoft and not a configuration issue. I've been seeing a lot of these types of issues with a recent update pushed out to CRM. I'd recommend submitting a ticket and let us know if you find anything out.
