Is that possible to Install GP2010 and GP9 with customization on same client computer?

Currently we are upgrading GP from version 9 to GP2010. We tried to install GP2010 side by side with existing GP9 with our own customizations. Once we installed GP2010, we found GP9 customization failed connecting to database. And we uninstall GP2010 and its related components, GP9 customization can go back working. Does anyone have clear explanation on this issue? Is it possible to install GP9 with customization (using retrievalGlobals9.dll) installed with GP2010 side by side? thanks in advance.

I had thought that the RetrieveGlobals9.dll was a preferred way to manage connections to the GP databases from within VBA customizations so that the connections can be done with the user's GP login credentials, thus not requiring a need to manage a separate set of permissions using Windows authentication. If this is incorrect, can you recommend some documentation that would better guide us in this?

    Thanks,

Agreed with Richard. We can't possible debug a custom development issue. Can your developer write a connction string for your developments so you don't have to rely on GP dll's?

Are there any tips or tricks for getting a GP2010 client including customizations to run cleanly in parallel with a GP9 client that also includes customizations? We use RetrieveGlobals9.dll to access the database from our customizations in GP9 - is there an equivalent file available for GP2010? Any tips for getting both to work on a single PC? All of our customizations are in VBA and were developed in-house. We are working towards moving to GP2010, and would like for our GP dev & support group to be able to have both versions installed for doing support and development and testing for both versions as we transition.

The word Customization implies that most of us will not know what is happening unless we write custom code and have a copy of yours.  What does your developer say about this?  They are the ones to ask.

    Thank you for your answer.

In our case, GP9 and GP2010 try to access different instances of company and DYNAMICS database.

Only our own customization got trouble to connect to database but GP default window and database connection has no problem.

Our customization used retrievalglobals9.dll to access userinfo and database connection string. I am guessing the issue may be existed there. I understood that global info section has to be rewritten in GP2010 but not sure why existing GP9 cannot access database as before since they have different ODBC sources.

Since GP2010 asks for Dexterity 11 before installation, is that possible Dexterity version causes this issue? But how to install Dexterity to make customization in both of GP 9 and GP2010 access their own databases?

    Thank you again,

    H.

For standard GP - You can have the applications installed on the same machine side by side - but they cannot both access the same databases (i.e. the same instanceof MSSQL Server). The DYNAMICS and company databases can only exist in one version - eithre 9 or 2010.

Does the above answer your querey, or have I misunderstood - are you accessing a different instance of SQL from each instance of GP? - i.e. are they using different ODBC's?
