trial balance does not total to zero

I am running a trial balance, including all posting accounts, inactive accounts and zero balance accounts. It does not total to zero. This report is not modified.  Both the summary and the detailed trial balance are off this amount.  I have narrowed it down and I know the day that it happened.  The prior year end close was done correctly and all accounts were setup as the correct posting type.

I have done some queries in the GL20000 table and I do not have a transaction for the amount I am off.

I have run reconcile on all years and I have run checklinks.  This did not fix the issue.

Thx

Rachel

Run a SQL query against the GL20000 table and group by journal entry number and sum the net debit and credit. Check any of the Journal Entry number does not equal zero.

    Hi

Have you double checked that you have not accidentally marked Unit Accounts as well?  This would give you an unbalanced report.

    Cheers

(p.s. amazing how many times something simple like this can be the reason and it has been looked over, hence why I am asking what would seem to be a very obvious question)

    Hi Leslie,

That did help me find it.  It turns out that these are intercompany transactions?  I only see a debit for each journal entry (there are 2)  They came from payables.  Any idea how to fix?

    thx!

And to add a little more information to this.  The first time I ran reconcile I got an error because there was a fixed allocation account that was missing an account number. (not sure how it saved without it.  There was a % but no account)  I added account 04-00-00-0006-00 and re-ran reconcile and that fixed that error.  This is the account that is now showing on the one sided JE that is causing my TB to be out of balance.  It seems like these are related.  Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.  Thx!

I'm a bit confused. The association account can't have a balance, so is it the distribution account (04-00-00-0006-00) the one with the error, yes? If you have a one-sided JE that just shows that one account, the other account should have been to your due to/from account. What was posted to the other company? Your due to/from account should also be out of balance between the two entities. Can you find the matching entry on the other company?
