Read or edit access to a field based on roles

I've added a new field to InventTable and added the field to Released products form. The requirement is then that some roles (perhaps just everyone with access to the form) are allowed to read the field and some role(s) are allowed to edit. There does not seem to be a simple way to do this. I can add a new privilege that sets update permission to Deny but I can't just give that privilege to everyone as it will not be overridden by a privilege that allows update. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi nmkloster,

You used the 'Deny' option which indicates that you are using Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. The posted this question in the Dynamics AX forum which is not the best one for your question.

The 'Deny' option can't be overridden, so you have to think of a way how to assign the 'Deny' permissions only to those users which are not allowed to edit the fields.

You can read my blog which is discussing a similar requirement. It should help you solving your challenge. Security how-to: Only finance users are allowed to see cost prices in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations - Dynamicspedia

PS. XDS like mentioned above is only securing access to complete records; not individual fields.

    Hello nmkloster,

What AX/D365 version do you actually operate?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
