Can I password protect adding/changing vendor records?

Posted on by 210

Is there a way to set up GP to require a password to add or change a vendor record?  One person enters/changes data, another reviews and approves with a password.

Correct...GP Workflow on 2010 will track these kinds of changes and require approval.  However, a Dex or Visual Studio tools custom would probably be better as you can trigger off of the fields that you want to track if changed.

    Thanks.

Did you find a solution to your need?

My client has a similar issue.

I am considering developing a VBA routine to lock down the Inactive/hold vendor status.

I read that Vendor Workflow in 2010 will handle this, but not for GP10.

Sorry, I just re-read your post and you won't be able to do what you're asking without a customization.  I missed the part about one person entering and another approving the record.  There is no functionality in GP for that type of workflow for master record maintenance.  If you want to simply restrict who can add/modify master records, you can do that with FLS.

    Sorry for misleading you,

Yes, you can do this with Field Level Security by password protecting a window or a field and applying that security by user ID or user class.
