international date format

Hello,

We have GP deployed on the terminal server. There is installation instance of US and another with UK. I'd like to set it so when the users launch the UK version, the date is displayed as DD\MM\YYYY. If the users launch the US version, it would just default to the System Time and date on the terminal server as US. I read somewhere that the DEX.ini file can be edited, but I tried and it did not work. I added the line STdInternationlFmt = TRUE but no success.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

    hi Ian,

Will this work with web client?

Exactly same way as you described, but if users are not using "fat" GP client via RDP but rather use web client with GP 2016.

    Thank you

    RE: international date format

In my experience, all I have to do is have the users set their server profile to that country's settings and that will dynamically change these formats.  At least for the date time pickers.  Not sure about reports.  I have the exact same scenario where we have terminal servers all over the world with GP, specifically for a UK, Japan and Australia install, and just the other day, I showed one of the Japan users how to change the regional settings on their terminal services profile and next then re-launched GP the date formats he was expecting had been correctly changed to the way he wanted to see it.  For the UK, we put then on a new application server once, it was installed and configured for US formats, the users brought the date issue to our attention, then we just had then go into Regional settings and add en-GB under their profile.  On my profile, I can toggle between the 2 with the language bar.  Again, that is just the date time pickers, you may be talking about GP reports and I guess that might have to do with the install language you picked.  Obviously Ian has firsthand knowledge of this, but this was just my experience.  I also have been dealing with SSRS reports and date formatting recently and one trick is that for the Report Language, I always pick "=User!Language" and use the dynamic formats and I get to see the reports in my date format and the UK users see that same report in their format.

Sorry - you will need two installs of the GP client. One for US and one for Europe - and then publish the relevant GP Icon to each users desktop. Within each client install therefore there would be a seperate dex.ini file.

There is another way  - to copy the dex.ini to each users active directory roaming profile...and then you can edit it for each user - that way you would have a seperate dex.ini for eah user. I've never done it this way simply because it means you have many more dex.ini's to update if you need to update.

    Ian.

    Ian,

OK, I think I missed the step of changing the system date to European on the computer. I can create to GP icons, but how do I set one to point to a different dex.ini file?

Change the system date to be European.

Then create two different GP Icons. One uses the standard Dex.ini.

One (for the US) uses a dex.ini with the STdInternationlFmt = TRUE line added.

Or you can investigate RDP profiles so that when a user logs in, the system date is set to whatever they need.

We come across this a lot. So, if its not working for you email/pm me and I can help you out.

    Ian.
